Kawasaki’s long-running, 649cc Versys model is getting a larger sibling. The company announced today that the Versys 1000 will finally be sold in the U.S. as a 2015 model, with both versions coming in an “LT” configuration. The larger Versys has been sold elsewhere in the world since the 2012 model year.
The Versys 1000 LT is powered by an inline, 1,043cc, four-cylinder engine and comes with 28-liter hard saddlebags, hand guards, large windshield and center stand. The model is designed for long-distance riding with an upright riding position, low foot pegs, and an over-sized handlebar that is rubber-mounted (just like the engine) to reduce rider fatigue.
ABS is standard. There’s also three-mode traction control and an ECO Economical Riding Indicator. The Versys 1000 LT as well as the Versys 650 LT feature two narrow horizontal headlights, which is a dramatic change from the stacked headlight configuration that the smaller Versys has used in the past.
The chain-driven Versys 1000 LT has a six-speed transmission and slipper clutch. Its fitted with Bridgestone Battlax Sport Touring T30 tires on its 17-inch wheels.
No MSRP yet. The Versys 1000 LT will be available in orange, black and flat black.
