Motorcycle thefts in the U.S. continued to decline in 2013 with 45,367 being stolen, down 1.5 percent from 2012, according to a report released Monday by the National Insurance Crime Bureau. A total of 694 fewer bikes were taken.
Since 2007, when 65,678 bikes were stolen, motorcycle thefts have decreased dramatically.
Japanese-made bikes were the most vulnerable.The Top 5 brands taken in 2013 were Honda (8,557), Yamaha (7,038), Suzuki (6,378), Kawasaki (4,736) and American-made Harley-Davidson (3,907).
Topping the Top 5 list of cities where a bike was most likely to be taken was New York, followed by Las Vegas, San Diego, Indianapolis and Los Angeles. The Top 5 states for motorcycle thefts were California, Florida, Texas, North Carolina and Indiana.
July was the month with the highest number of thefts in 2013 with 5,360, followed by August (5,288) and September (4,793). The fewest thefts cames in February with 2,124, followed by December (2,546) and March (2,674).
