UNION VALE, NY – Tail Winds Cafe, the hilltop eatery in Duchess County that’s a favorite destination for riders, won’t be closing after all. It had been expected to shutter at the end of June having been unable to negotiate a new lease. The restaurant even announced on Facebook back in May that the closure is “not our choice” and noted “we are with a heavy heart having to leave.”
However, the landlord apparently had second thoughts and offered the Tail Winds Cafe a reprieve. “We’re happy that we’re here. I didn’t want to lose my locals,” owner Hope McLucas said today. She reported that she has signed a one-year lease with two one-year options.
The cafe’s prior lease expired in April. A Facebook post regarding the new lease states, “This has been a teeter tot ride, but we’re staying. We’re happy about it and we hope all of our customers are too.”
A second Tail Winds restaurant is planned for the Duchess County Airport with a “mid-August” opening planned, McLucas said.
