A Ducati enthusiast from Harwinton, CT recently clued in RIDE-CT.com to a coming new model. Nothing had been announced yet, but, as a loyal Ducati buyer, he said that he’d been tipped to a secret website for the bike where it was slowly being unveiled. He reported that the bike was incredibly light, extremely powerful and would sell for more than $60,000. He also said he’d already placed an order for one of the 500 copies being built at the company’s headquarters in Bologna, Italy.
That was more than a week ago. Ducati has now revealed that bike – the limited-edition 2014 1199 Superleggera.
It’s a superbike that weighs in at only 341.7 pounds (dry) thanks to the use of titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber. It has more than 200 horsepower, too, making it scary fast.
No word on when the Superleggera will be delivered to buyers. Ducati reports:
The 1199 Superleggera has been offered first to owners of the Desmosedici RR or R version Superbikes, giving them the right of first refusal to purchase the the new model. Its success has exceeded all expectations; currently, 75% of the 500 examples which will be produced, have already been sold.
With so few being built, the odds of most riders ever seeing one on the road are slim, but RIDE-CT.com knows the location where the Harwinton owner will garage his and expects to gets some pics and details as soon as it arrives.
The bike will be displayed publicly for the first time on the Ducati stand of the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy in November.
