There’s an old saying that there’s no such thing as bad publicity. There’s some truth to it. Notoriety is better than no one knowing that you exist. But what about the error-strewn case of TV exposure?
The good news is that the grand opening party at Indian of Springfield in Westfield, MA. yesterday made the local 6 p.m. news on ABC40 in Springfield. The bad news is that the owner was misidentified and that the info on Indian’s history in the market made no sense whatsoever.
Dealer owner Dennis Bolduc was identified by the anchor, in an on-screen font and in an online story as Dennis “Boldut.” The story also said that Indian “has a deep history in Western Mass. They’ve had dealerships here since 1953.”
Ah, Indian was founded in Springfield in 1901 and made bikes in the city until 1953 – when it went out of business. The name has been revived since then – from 1991 -2003 by a company in Gilroy, CA and from 2006 – 2011 by a different company in Kings Moutain, NC – but it wasn’t until 2011 when Polaris bought Indian that its lasting revival seemed assured.
