Think we have it bad with the seizure and crushing of bikes that are ridden illegally – at least in NYC? A court in England has sentenced a reckless rider to eight months in prison for taking police on a two-hour pursuit back in February in the city of Luton, which is north/northwest of London.
Luton Crown Court sentenced 24-year-old Akeem Foster last week. Police released a video of the chase, which shows Foster riding his motocross bike without a helmet, pulling wheelies, riding off of the pavement and going the wrong way entering a roundabout. A police helicopter was used to record the “nuisance motorcyclist.”
The “Luton News” quotes Sergeant Mark Pugh of Bedfordshire Police as saying, ““We’re releasing this footage to show that we are taking a firm line on nuisance motorcyclists, they will be caught and they will be punished.
“Foster was caught riding in an extremely reckless manner with complete disregard for either his own safety or that of others. This irresponsible and outright dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated and we are committed to tackling the issue of nuisance motorcyclists across the county.
“I hope that this acts as a reminder to other people like Foster who think they are above the law and that they think twice before risking lives,” Pugh added. The newspaper story is here.
Eight months in prison, though? That is better than the eight-year sentence that the British motorcycle website Visordown handed down for Foster when it posted the story this morning.
