NASHUA, NH – Motus motorcycle dealer Rocket Moto Sport only moved into its new facility two weeks ago, and doesn’t expect any of the pricey new American-made sport bikes from the Alabama-based company on the showroom floor until mid-June, so visitors should be understanding if a “pardon our dust” atmosphere exists for a while.
“It’s completely new territory for us,” owner Adam Schoolsky said today, reporting that Rocket Moto Sport’s new building at 2 Townsend West, Suite 8 contains a 1,000-square-foot showroom and a 2,000-square-foot shop. Nonetheless, amidst the ramp up, a weekly Bike Night event on Thursdays begins this evening with the store staying open until 8 p.m.
As for becoming a Motus dealer, and the only one in New England, Schoolsky said he first noticed the then-proposed brand about five years ago. A trip to San Franscisco a year ago happened to coincide with a Motus promotional effort in the area. He met Motus president Lee Conn and inquired about the company’s dealer requirements.
The answers included a mandate that the dealership be motorcycle “enthusiast owned” and that it should be a destination spot. As Motus geared up for production of two sport-bike models, Schoolsky worked to get necessary zoning and state approval to become a dealer.
“It’s not a motorcycle for everyone. It’s not a beginner’s bike,” said Schoolsky of Motus’s MST and MSTR sport touring models, both of which sell for more than $30,000. The MST delivers 160 horsepower from its V4 engine, while the MSTR delivers 180 horsepower. “This is a hand-built bike. They might build 300 bikes this first year,” he said.
Offering Motus motorcycles fits into Rocket Moto Sport’s business plan of providing “stuff that’s hard to find in other places,” said Schoolsky, referring to accessories, upgrades and gear that his store sells – the “things that help people enjoy their riding more.”
That might mean high-end Ohlins shock absorbers from Sweden, Bluetooth devices or helmets made by Arai and Schuberth. “My best customer is someone who is educated about what they want to buy. We don’t sell anything that I don’t absolutely believe in,” Schoolsky said.
That doesn’t mean that Rocket Moto Sport ignores the routine. “We do all the normal stuff, too – tires, brakes and batteries,” he added.
As previously reported, a Motus demo truck will be at Rocket Moto Sport on June 26 and 27.
