Scenic Videos From Scotland With Safety Reminders

Safety videos can often be dry and preachy, but the Scottish government has recently been producing a series of short scenic videos aimed at motorcyclists that are scenically beautiful while containing numerous reminders of the obstacles and the challenges that riders routinely experience.

The campaign is appropriately dubbed “Breathtaking Roads.” The newest video, published on Monday, is titled “Mountain” and was shot on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. It shows a rider enjoying less-traveled roads and points out through superimposed graphics what needs to be watched out for, including “midges,” which are small insects.

“This ride is one of the most famous in Scotland,” Road Safety Scotland’s website LiveFastDieOld at dontriskit.info states, reporting that the video takes viewers through Glen Orchy, Glencoe and the Loch Linnhe Loop.

The website also notes, “Scotland’s roads offer scenery, adventure, and freedom like nowhere else on earth,” making the videos a tourist lure as well.

The two prior scenic videos are “Forest” and “Coastal.”

While those of us in New England might argue that our corner of the planet is equally beautiful, there are lessons to be learned from the videos while riding along vicariously.
