MERRIMACK, NH – In a deal that closed last week, National Powersports Distributors of Pembroke, NH has purchased Second Wind BMW-Triumph here from owner Darrell Faulkenberry, jettisoning the BMW line of motorcycles in the process while retaining Triumph.

Second Wind BMW-Triumph has been family owned since 1985. National Powersports is the powerhouse used bike retailer and Triumph dealer operated by Nate Sanel.

“This is just the first step,” Sanel said Wednesday in regards to adding a second store. “It’s going to be our first brand location (outside of the flagship store).” The store at 25 Craftsman Lane has already been renamed and Second Wind BMW-Triumph’s website has been taken down.

Since Wednesday afternoon when RIDE-CT & RIDE-NewEngland visited the Pembroke location, National Powersports has launched a redesigned website that lists the new location. The updated website is more comprehensive and easier to navigate.

Asked why National Powersports dropped BMW, Sanel explained that his business specializes in used motorcycles. “It doesn’t fit my plan. I focus on used and Triumph,” he said, later amplifying “It’s what we do well and I plan on continuing that focus as we move forward. Triumph is the only OEM brand that I want alongside the used bikes at this point. That’s why selling new BMWs in the Merrimack location doesn’t fit the plan. I’m actually a very big BMW motorcycle fan, but that’s very different than dealing with a company from a dealer perspective.”

BMW came and trucked away new models on Tuesday. Sanel said the Merrimack store will continue to service BMWs for their owners and has two master technicians on staff.

For BMW, the loss of the dealership here leaves it with one dealer in New Hampshire – MAX BMW in North Hampton. The surrender a while back of the BMW line by AJ Cycle Shop in Gill, MA leaves a large swath across southern New Hampshire and Vermont and northern Massachusetts without a BMW store within easy reach for riders seeking to buy a new BMW.
