SANTA MONICA, CA – With only four weeks to go until show time, the New York City stop on the Progressive IMS Outdoors tour scheduled for Sept. 3 through 5 at the Brooklyn Army Terminal was suddenly canceled late this afternoon.
Changing COVID-19 rules in the state prompted the show’s shutdown by the promoter. “As a result of the state of New York’s recent decision to enforce proof of vaccination and rapid testing for public events of scale, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the New York event,” read the announcement of the tour stop’s cancelation.
“This is a choice that we firmly believe is in the best interest of our attendee and exhibit communities for both their safety and event experience. Attendees that have already purchased a ticket will be fully refunded within 7-10 days.”
This year’s IMS Outdoors tour replaces the long-running Progressive International Motorcycle Show tour that annually visited the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in midtown Manhattan in December. The closest tour stop now will be the at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA. It will run from Sept. 10 through 12.
The announced continued, “We appreciate your understanding and know this announcement may raise questions.”
A more detailed explanation on the tour’s website states that “new mandates may potentially require all exhibitors, suppliers, press, and attendees at the IMS Outdoors New York event to either show their vaccination card or be rapid tested on-site prior to entry.
“Based on a recent survey of our long-time New York IMS audience, we strongly believe these restrictions will have a negative impact on the overall attendance, and we will not deliver the quantity and quality attendance our customers, both exhibitor and attendee, are expecting.”
The promoter did say the 2022 tour will include a stop in the region.
