SPIRIT LAKE, IA – Polaris has stopped producing its three-wheeled Slingshot model at its plant here, reserving the three assembly lines solely for the production of Indian and Victory motorcycles. The Slingshot is now being made at a factory in nearby Milford in advance of production being shifted to a new factory in Huntsville, AL.

The “Sioux City Journal” reports, “This is the first time in nearly two decades that the 400,000-square-foot Spirit Lake facility has focused exclusively on one product. The plant produced personal watercraft when it opened in 1994, and had made nearly every other Polaris since then.” Slingshots have been made there since late 2014.

The Spirit Lake plant employees about 1,000 workers and puts out roughly 900 motorcycles a week. The newspaper says, ‘The Indian line includes the middle-weight Scout, which has its own production line, while the other Indian models are produced interchangeably on another line, as are the Victory bikes on a third line.”
